Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Ada County Coroner for the last 4 years! I will continue to benefit my community with the continued assurance that my teams provide both impartial forensic and medicolegal death investigations in determining an accurate and timely cause and manner of death for our decedents and their families.
For the last several years I have been blessed with the duty and privilege to assist those at the most difficult time in their lives, the loss of a loved one. Whether one dies in the company of family and friends or all alone and nameless, our decedents deserve impartial forensic investigations and the dignified treatment by the county coroner.
As the Ada County Coroner, I have been able to increase the quality of death investigation and forensic investigations for our Ada County community. In my first two years in office, challenges arose. The dramatic increase in caseload due to the excessive population increase Ada County has experienced caused strain and stress on staff. I responded to high burn out rates and excessive overtime by increasing the number of staff to respond to this case demand. I have also put a tight rein on the budget, and yet have held the ability to upgrade decades-old equipment to ensure the safety and efficiency of my staff. Within the last few years, we have had the opportunity to add the specialty of a Neuro Forensic Pathologist to the staff, allowing the office to conduct and complete studies and testing within the office, reducing unnecessary costs with outside consulting.
Over the course of the last few years, I have had the honor and privilege to work with the great leaders of our county. Our office has developed and maintained very strong working relationships with our local and state law enforcement entities, prosecutor’s office, universities, hospitals and numerous other agencies. By working closely with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police, Boise City Police, Meridian Police, Ada County Crime Lab, amongst others within the Ada County jurisdiction, I have been able to develop a solid foundation and greatly strengthening these essential networks.
Prior to my time as Ada County Coroner, I was a Medicolegal Death Investigator for 8 years, and the Forensic Supervisor at the Ada County Coroner’s Office. I have personally investigated and reviewed thousands of scenes ranging from suicides to homicides, child deaths to hospices, each and every one equally as important as the other. I have extensive knowledge in all divisions of the office and have led the Ada County Coroner’s Office to becoming the third Coroner’s jurisdiction in the nation to hold the prestigious accreditations through National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME), International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (IAC&ME) and have also successfully trained my team effectively so that they are American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigator (ABMDI) certified.
As your Coroner, I will continue to promote a collaborative approach for medicolegal death investigation and forensic investigation that fully utilizes the combined expertise of my wonderful team, our law enforcement partners and other experts in determining the cause and manner of death.
I hold the necessary qualifications and certifications to maintain certifications of staff and accreditation of the office. These certifications and accreditations are imperative to Ada County. I will continue to move my county and state forward in the ever-progressing field of medicolegal death investigation and forensics while operating at the highest standards.
I ask for your vote and support in November 2018!
